Hello?

Is there anything interesting going on at all? Really, anything remotely interesting? Preferably some sort of new drama or controversial subject.

All I can tell is everything is the same old and nothing new will happen in eq2 until the next release of some form. We may or may not get an epic quest, whomever world firsts it grats, on your lockout timers aligning cuz I am sure there will be like 10 guilds that beat it the first time they go into IS or EH or whatever zone you need to go into to finish it. I am pretty sure Lyndro posted that the rewards will be worth it so I guess we may have that to go off on when the rewards are in fact broken and useless piles of shit.

Other than that a bunch of people are playing vanguard like its some new thing when in reality its SOE's new eq2 with most likely the exact same people working on it and calling most of the shots. Have fun leveling up in that game people because once thats over you have eq2 all over again, only your starting from the ground and having to work up again. Not my idea of fun, but to each their own I suppose.

So anyone have some new insult play on my name or something? Ive grown tired of Ishfag and Bitchbu and would like a new one. That or something actually worth disussing/argueing would be great because I think we're all getting a bit bored here.

You should try Vanguard with a 10 day pass before you pass judgment. I'd wager the first dungeon you explore will impress you more than anything you've seen in EQ2. Or just continue with EQ2 maybe they'll release Nek Castle 12 or Unrest 17.

And you think VG will be different? You don't think they'll release a rehash of some old zone later down the line? Please, the entire game is a rehash of a very old and worn out idea. Sigil wouldn't know a new and refreshing idea if it hacked their code and inserted itself into the game.

There is nothing new in VG, nor will there ever be. Not unless CCP buys it anyway.

Sure, there's nothing new about EQ2 either, but like Ishbu implies, starting VG now is just the same as starting EQ2 all over again. Same shit, different toilet.

Oh, and if you were talking about the graphics (I think that’s what you meant by being impressed?) I fail to be impressed by a dull brown pallet. VG looks like Quake 1 in terms of design for Christ sake. EQ2 is still far and away the best looking MMO around and you would be a fool or blind to disagree.

Ive had VG beta access for almost a year and I would hop on and play very sporadically. The game simply didnt suit my interests at all.

To me it felt like they were trying to bring back eq1 only for the new generation and it didnt work. Its not hard, challenging, new, or innovative, its just the same thing slowed way way down. Im all for a slower pace and all, but I want something worth my time I guess and for me VG is the same old with a new wrapper.

Beta didn't give Vanguard its due. I couldn't force myself to play during beta either but I'm enjoying it now.

Sure, Vanguard is a reinvention of the wheel but at least it's an improved wheel. One of my biggest complaints with EQ2 were that dungeons felt like two bedroom apartments. My favorite zone was SolEye. I've seen about 4 dungeons the size of SolEye or larger (I'm level 20 in VG). Who knows what's around the corner when it comes to raid content or itemization but at least the journey there will be enjoyable.

What do you really have to lose? A few contested mobs that aren't very challenging that drop gear that isn't very good? And why? So you can prove you have a top 10 raiding guild when hell, there aren't even 10 raiding guilds left in EQ2, just a bunch of shitty guilds pieced together with casuals replacements of members that were good.

Do you hold out hope that itemization will suddenly be magically fixed? Or that Estate of Unrest will actually take more than 1 day to beat? Do you think the next expansion will really have more than 3 raid zones? Has EQ2 shown any signs that they care about anyone but casual gamers?

If you level to 20, you'll quickly realize that while not perfect and definitely not brand new Vanguard is still a step in the right direction. Rome wasn't built in a day.

If Im going to hold out hope for a game, why not hope for the game I have already invested countless hours into?

Its SOE, they only know one thing, and thats mass appeal with poor quality. The rumor is that several developers were moved off of EQ2 to work on Vanguard. I cant substantiate that but I am sure there must be someone out there that knows if the rumors are true. If that is true, then literally the exact same people are at this very moment crafting the future of Vanguard, and we all know where that will be if that is the case.

I certantly dont love eq2 the way I used to. I certantly dont enjoy playing all that much anymore. But I do know that I am not ready to quit because I will not be playing another MMO when I do quit.

Its not that eq2 has turned me off of them its just that there are a few things in my life I would like to do and doing them whenever I quit eq2 is the best bet to make sure they get done. Im not a casual player nor do I have any desire to return to that style like I was in eq1. I do know I am a gamer though so I am not going to pretend Im done gaming or that Ill never play another MMO again because that would be a lie. I just know whenever my time comes in this game I fully plan on disappearing from any map what so ever to take care of some things that frankly just matter more to me.

For those hardcore players that think Vanguard is their messiah, its not true and I am sure they know it deep down somewhere. The day of the hardcore gamer being the target market is dead.

I am sincere when I say congratulations to the people who are going hardcore in eq2 to hardcore in vanguard. It must be a very nice feeling to know that for the forseeable future you have accomplished all you wish to accomplish in RL. That is not a knock at all, 3 years ago I was in the same boat and I switched over to eq2. If that was still the case maybe I would be more upbeat about vanguard, but if I only have another month, year, or 2 years left, I dont want to spend them building back to what Im already at here.

Crazy to hear that RL statement about hardcore players coming from you, but I guess everyone changes.

I can understand not wanting to make a long term commitment to a game. After all we are talking about games. Although the way you describe your EQ2 experience it sounds more like work than entertainment, like 3 years on the job.

Why would you play something that's so unfulfilling? Are you a masochist Ishbu? It almost sounds like you're neglecting "unfinished business" in your real life and using EQ2 as an excuse, but perhaps I read too much into your response. Either way, Good luck.

Hey Ishbu,

I follow the hardcore eq2 guilds as a fan - knowing I can't step up and work that hard at being the best... that said - who wasn't max level with uber gear in eq1 and switched to eq2?

The same people that made eq1 went over to eq2 right? It's the same old zones with pretty new graphics right? The crap drops of eq1 became the HQ's of eq2, but hey the zerg-fest did come to a halt.

It's the same thing with VG. So what? Do you really want to clear the same old crap for another 8 months+? Oh why bother with anything but EH/IS/FTH anyways, the rest of the gear is craptastic. So now you got 3 zones, yippee.

Can you make max level in eq2 in 2days, join a farming hardcore guild and be the "best" too? yep. BORING, zero accomplishment.

VG is different like Horizons was different, except it's well, kinda like Horizons with about 10 more people playing?

At least right now you can play VG, and in 2 days you'll be lvl 8 and still have no clue how to play the game. Not 70, best gear/spells and still have no clue how to play the game.

Ill try and answer the last few posts all in this one.

First to Gaige: I really didnt mean that statement as any sort of knock. It just means I wish I knew I could put in a long term commitment for a new game. That doesnt mean right now, because for me a long term commitment to a game such as an mmo would be 3+ years. I am not even there for eq2 yet and I do know I cant devote that to something new yet. Maybe not everyone looks ahead as far as I do, but I am not a casual gamer nor do I have any desire to be one.

To the next guy: I dont hate this game, I hate the let downs it creates that are soley the developers fault. For example, the mit curve is completely fucked, but it is easy as hell to fix. Next expansion raises the level cap to 80 (I know people dont want that but we need to get the fuck out of this tier). The begining raid dropped armor has 2x the mit as the current stuff, but fully decked out in that you are only at about 60% mit in a raid setup. The high end raid stuff drops will move you up to about 70% mit in a raid once you have a full set and the very top end raids are completely designed around your tanks having 70% mit. That would fix that problem and anyone should be able to realize it. Hopefully the developers can too since they are often a step behind the rest of us. I guess I just feel that if I am going to play a game and hope that its better than first glance, it might as well be the one Ive been playing and still do play everyday.

To the last guy: Thats how VG is now, now that it is new. EQ2 was the same way. 5 months, a year, etc from now you will be able to be power leveled up to the max level in no time just like EQ2. There will be morons at the top levels just like there is in eq2, and all the other negatives will apply there as well. It happens in every mmo, nothing new now or ever will be different.

SOE has already moved their developers to the head of the VG development team. They are creating/running the show.

For 146th time, Sony sent devs to help finish VG because they had nothing fucking left and the game was fubar'd beyond belief.

Here from Dymus lately in EQ2? Nope...wonder where he is?

VG is a decent game, I play it every so often BUT slowing XP down to a fucking crawl to make the game take longer to get to end game DOES NOT make a game hardcore.

I am sick and fucking tired of people thinking TIME = HARDCORE. In VG it's there because the end game is being designed, and by who you ask - well EQ2 devs who were moved over to help with the game.

The game (like all semi decent new games) has it's highest level of subs now, but give it to the first expansion. Then you find out the staying power of a game.
